It all began with a debut concert unlike any other – broadcast live on national television, in front of none other than Queen Margrethe herself. This was the world’s first introduction to Nive Nielsen: an Inuk singer-songwriter with a small red ukulele and a talent that reaches far beyond Greenland’s snow-covered expanses.

Since then, she has built a remarkable international career with her band The Deer Children, creating a magical universe they call Inuit indie – a melting pot of Americana folk, Nordic indie, and Greenlandic storytelling tradition.

Nive released her debut album Nive Sings! in 2012 in close collaboration with legendary producer John Parish (PJ Harvey, Tracy Chapman). The album opened the door to an international career, and that same year she received the Crown Prince Couple's Rising Star Award. His Royal Highness the Crown Prince called her "a modern Greenlander who sees the entire world as her stage."

And the world has been her stage: Nive has toured extensively throughout Europe, the USA, and Canada, collaborated with artists such as The Black Keys and Howe Gelb, and received recognition and awards on both sides of the Atlantic. She has also showcased her talent as an actress – appearing in the Hollywood film The New World alongside Colin Farrell, as well as in Ridley Scott’s critically acclaimed series The Terror.

All the while, she’s written songs about love, reindeer, and forgetting to make coffee – all delivered with a touching, playful voice and poetic soul.

In January 2026, Nive Nielsen & The Deer Children will release the long-awaited follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2015 album Feet First.

Live, the band offers a truly special experience: The instrumentation ranges from ukulele and saw to horns, cello, and glockenspiel (or “glockenspil,” as Nive says with a smile), creating an atmosphere that’s energetic and rocking yet also dreamy, intimate, and deeply original. Snow songs? Inuit indie? Arctic Americana?

Whatever you call it, Nive & The Deer Children offer an unforgettable journey into a musical universe where the North meets the world – and where every note tells a story.
