Søren Krogh & Blågræs

Søren Krogh is touring in support of his 11th album, Blågræs.
Blågræs is a direct translation of the American word bluegrass, a subgenre of American folk music within the country tradition. “We don’t play bluegrass, but rather a gumbo of many kinds of American folk music... in Danish. Hence the word danacana,” says Krogh about the music, and continues: “So now we call ourselves Søren Krogh & Blågræs.”

In 2022, Krogh ignited a rocket of a band—the same band he recorded Havtornland with, which brought him back to the live music scene with full force. But... still with the stories between the songs – a concert style that has become his trademark over the years.

Blågræs continues along the path laid out by its predecessor, Havtornland. Danish songs with sharp observations about places and local characters, whom Krogh primarily finds in the most windswept parts of Jutland, but who are instantly recognizable to anyone from Southern Jutland, Lolland, Amager, Funen, or Western Zealand. Musically, Krogh has a firm grip on his own style – danacana – a Danish take on the melting pot of folk, blues, country, cajun, and bluegrass that Americans call americana. The concerts are top-notch musically. And so is the storytelling. The stories are a big part of Krogh’s performances – because they’re necessary, and because he’s simply very good at telling them.
