This is one of Europe’s most virtuosic and tight-knit bands, David Helbock Random/Control. Many legs and arms are indeed needed in this multi-instrumental laboratory, where astonishingly grand and beautiful music constantly emerges – effortlessly balancing intuitive spontaneity with total control. The texts are brought to life by the extraordinary vocalist Filippa Gojo

Have you ever seen this before – a stage with just three musicians playing more than 20 instruments between them? You might be wondering how that’s even possible. The answer lies in the fact that this is one of Europe’s most virtuosic and tight-knit bands, who over the past 15 years have played nearly as many concerts around the world as a centipede has legs. And many legs and arms are indeed needed in this multi-instrumental laboratory, where astonishingly grand and beautiful music constantly emerges – effortlessly balancing intuitive spontaneity with total control. Together, the trio has released five critically acclaimed albums, most recently in 2025, where they set music to poetry by the likes of William Blake and Emily Dickinson. These texts are brought to life by the extraordinary vocalist Filippa Gojo, recipient of the prestigious New German Jazz Award. At the heart of it all is international jazz star David Helbock, a pianist who has twice been awarded Best Jazz Pianist at the world’s largest jazz festival in Montreux. It really doesn’t get much better than this.

Line-up:
David Helbock (AT): piano & percussion
Filippa Gojo (DE): vocals
Johannes Bär (AT): sousaphone, tuba, trombone, trumpet, alphorn, didgeridoo, beatbox & drums
Andreas Broger (AT): clarinet, saxophone, flute & vocals
