Italy’s Keith Jarrett meets Denmark’s heir to Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen. That’s as short as it gets. Together, these two form a world-class superduo, combining their extraordinary powers. Their interplay is a continuous pleasure, where unsurpassed technical mastery meets immense musical beauty.

In 2024, Thomas Fonnesbæk released the album En Rome alongside some of Europe’s finest musicians, including Enrico Pieranunzi. Now you can experience the Italian keyboard virtuoso and the Danish bass virtuosity continue their musical dialogue at Godset. It’s Italian for advanced listeners!

Line-up:
Enrico Pieranunzi (IT) – grand piano
Thomas Fonnesbæk – double bass

About the musicians
Enrico Pieranunzi is one of the world’s finest pianists. Over his long career, he has collaborated with many of the greatest jazz musicians, including Lee Konitz, Chris Potter, Chet Baker, Joey Baron, Paul Motian, Marc Johnson, and many others. His discography is extensive—over 60 albums as a leader and 300–400 as a sideman—and as a composer, he has worked across numerous genres.

Pieranunzi is renowned for his impressive career as a jazz pianist, but he has also maintained a parallel career as a classical concert pianist and has served as a professor at the Conservatory of Rome, one of the finest in the world. He has released many well-known classical works and is particularly celebrated for his interpretations of the great composers of the Baroque period.

Thomas Fonnesbæk, Denmark’s superb bassist, has for years performed at a world-class level with artists such as Monty Alexander, Christian Sands, Justin Kauflin, Aaron Parks, Enrico Pieranunzi, John Taylor, Helge Lien, Paulo Freso, Harvey Mason, Stefano Bollani, Adam Baldych, and many others.

In Denmark, he is especially known for his duo with vocalist Sinne Eeg, which has received critical acclaim worldwide and won a Danish Music Award in 2015. Over the past decade, he has also performed globally with Swedish pianist Lars Jansson and his Trio, and has worked extensively with Thomas Clausen, Mona Larsen, Lis Sørensen, among others.
