Prinsens Musikkorps, the Royal Danish Air Force Band, presents an energetic and vibrant concert where Armstrong’s music is told and interpreted through both classic and new arrangements. The audience gains insight into Armstrong’s life, his revolutionary playing style, and his enormous influence on the development of jazz.
The soloist is trumpeter Henrik Bolberg, who since 1989 has been a a central soloist with the DR Big Band and has collaborated with, among others, Niels Jørgen Steen, Poul Godske, and several award-winning jazz ensembles. Bolberg has received the Ben Webster Prize (1995), the JASA Prize (1996), and the Palæ Bar Prize (2010).
The narrator is Jens Sølund, former member of Papa Bue’s Viking Jazzband, which toured more than 30 countries over two decades and performed with some of the greatest American jazz musicians. Sølund brings stories, humor, and authentic jazz culture to the concert.
The concert is a festive and educational tribute to Louis Armstrong - filled with swing, humor, and top-class musicianship.
