The outdated attic space at the venue Godset will be transformed into a modern Co-Creation Lab with lounge areas, meeting facilities, and flexible solutions. Project Godset 2.5 responds to the needs of volunteers and other users of the venue for an inspiring and flexible place to meet and develop activities. The goal of the project is to create stronger communities, better well-being, and new opportunities for co-creation.

What is the idea?
130 passionate volunteers run the regional music venue Godset Kolding in cooperation with the municipality.

As part of a major upgrade in connection with Godset’s 25th anniversary, we want to create a modern Co-Creation Lab in Godset’s attic: a flexible community space with lounge and meeting facilities that strengthens the identity, well-being, and cultural innovation of the dedicated volunteers.

Together, we build bridges between the municipality and civil society and rethink the concert formats of the future.

Where will the idea be realised?
Godset is located at Kolding Harbour between the train station and Campus Kolding, in the historic freight terminal building, which since 2001 has been a hub for emerging music, experimental music, international concerts, and unconventional festivals.

By transforming the attic above the concert hall into an inviting lounge with meeting facilities, flexible zones, and movable furniture, we create a new gathering place that strengthens the volunteers’ working environment, sense of community, and development of new concert and festival concepts.

What does the project include?
The work begins by clearing and restructuring the existing attic space so that walls, fittings, and furniture can be moved and reused.

Next, the meeting room is opened up by expanding the entrance area and establishing a new lounge zone. The existing kitchen is dismantled and its core reused, while missing parts are replaced and new fronts are built from recycled wood.

After that, a mobile kitchen module, flexible furniture, and lighting are purchased from sustainable suppliers. The room is painted with lime paint to create a coherent colour scheme.

Finally, the area is furnished with new and reused furniture, custom-made carpentry solutions, and circular design products, so that the space appears functional, flexible, and ready for co-creation.

Who is behind the project?
The project is run by the association Rockin’ House, which with its 130 volunteers is responsible for most of the activities at the venue. The project is carried out in collaboration with Godset’s administration, which handles project management, finances, and coordination, while volunteers, musicians, and long-term partners contribute to needs assessments and the development of the new facilities.

How is the local community involved?
The local community is involved through ongoing dialogue and user participation with the many stakeholders who already use the venue: musicians from the rehearsal rooms, local associations such as Jazz6000 and Musik Kolding, educational institutions such as Munkensdam Gymnasium and Design School Kolding, as well as municipal and national partners.

In addition, creative networks, cultural actors, and volunteers are involved in developing functions and interior design, so the space reflects their needs.

Who benefits from the project and how?
The project benefits a broad group of users:
• Volunteers and staff gain inspiring spaces for community and development.
• Musicians get better opportunities for planning and creative work.
• Educational institutions gain a flexible environment for projects and workshops.
• Local associations and cultural actors can use modern meeting facilities.
• Municipal and national networks gain professional settings for collaboration.

The project strengthens community, creativity, and well-being in Kolding
How and to what extent is the space open to the public?
Godset is a public cultural venue, and the new facilities will be an integrated part of the house’s open activities. The space can be used by volunteers, associations, educational institutions, creative networks, and partners for meetings, workshops, teaching, and social events.

The key-based access system ensures flexible and secure access for relevant user groups, while the venue remains open to the public through events, concerts, and cultural activities.
