Now, Jakob Bro visits Jazz6000 as part of his Scandinavian Tour 2026, presenting new and groundbreaking dreamlike music written for a group of international star musicians who have together formed a sublime musical friendship. Together, they weave a delicate sonic tapestry - drawing on both Japanese and Danish musical traditions - to open a sound universe where time, place, and culture merge. It will be a subtle, floating, and sensuous Sunday afternoon filled with intimacy, beauty, and artistic excellence of the highest order. For Jakob Bro is, quite simply, one of a kind.
Jakob Bro met the two remarkable Japanese musicians Fumi Endo and Kanon Aonami around the premiere of Music for Black Pigeons: “They both have such a beautiful sound… and can create a mood with just a tone, a touch - as if in a dream or a meditation.” He has therefore invited them to join his Scandinavian Tour 2026, alongside two of the most prominent American jazz musicians with long experience from the New York jazz scene: saxophonist Chris Speed (of The Bad Plus) and double bassist Thomas Morgan (known for his work with Bill Frisell, Paul Motian, Masabumi Kikuchi, Jakob Bro, and many others). The ensemble also includes innovative Danish electronic musician Mads Emil Nielsen.
Musically, Bro has created new compositions for this project that draw connections to his earlier works - such as BRO/KNAK, the Balladeering Trilogy (nominated for the Nordic Council Music Prize), and his duo with Midori Takada, where beautiful tones from different worlds collide and blend.
All compositions are written by Jakob Bro, who has released 20 award-winning albums with international icons including Lee Konitz, Paul Motian, Bill Frisell, Joe Lovano, and Palle Mikkelborg. His music plays a central role in the film Music for Black Pigeons (directed by Jørgen Leth and Andreas Koefoed), which premiered at the Venice Biennale and has been shown at film festivals across the globe. Inspired by Paul Motian, Jakob Bro continues to forge new connections between musicians and audiences - from Japan to the U.S. to Europe - and brings them together in Denmark.
