Julie Berthelsen tells about the BerthelsenLyberth concert conversation:
"Welcome to a unique experience! A conversation and a concert all at once, with me and Rasmus Lyberth. Rasmus is actually part of my family; he's a cousin to my father, Per. For many, many years, Rasmus has pursued his career in Greenland, Denmark, and around the world. But he and I have never collaborated before. That's why we've now agreed to go ahead with this!
In my world, Rasmus has always been a star. Growing up in Greenland, his music was always around me, especially when he occasionally recorded with my father in the studio. Most of all, we sang his songs during morning assemblies at school and heard him on the radio. That's how I remember him the most. He was our great troubadour.
In my adult life, I've met Rasmus several times at various musical events or gatherings related to Greenland. It's always been warm and cozy, and I've always felt that he appreciates what I do. When I've been on tour playing concerts in different venues, I've seen his posters and noticed that he's played those places too. I've always seen him as something very special, especially for Greenland, its language, song heritage, and music. In my eyes, he's a fantastic ambassador for Greenland. Last year, he turned 70, and a documentary was released about him, which, to me, tells a lot but not everything.
Throughout our respective careers, we have represented the Realm, and everything that entails. He has done it mostly through his music and songs. I've done the same, but I've also been involved in TV and radio discussions about Greenland.
I see this concert as unique and special because we will discuss life as we are, in the two countries we belong to—good and bad. We will talk about everything and tell our stories through songs. We will discuss these topics in a way we never have before, so you'll gain a new insight into who we are and why we do what we do. How we got here.
The roads to where we are now haven't always been easy. But ultimately, now that we are where we are, we have nothing but gratitude and love for it all. You'll be able to feel this. And you'll certainly experience the powerful energies that arise when song and sound come from the soul and from something greater than us. And you're warmly welcome to ask us questions along the way.
I have plenty of memories with Rasmus and his songs—and he deserves to know that. I look up to him. He has meant a lot to me and to many others in Greenland and Denmark. And I have the honor of singing with him, singing his songs, and introducing you to a truly special artist and person when we embark on this tour and give you a completely new experience."
